Rescue sanctuary is key to local employment

Daily Echo

IT was good to hear that Purbeck District Council has agreed to grant planning permission for the proposed new animal hospital at Monkey World.

Monkey World may not seem central to the concerns of the Dorset business community - but it is. Tourism remains one of our key economic drivers.

For Dorset to remain a successful tourist destination we need to provide a variety of first class attractions.

Not only are tourism based businesses important in attracting people to the area but they also provide local employment both directly and indirectly.

They employ people themselves but they also support other business, including hotels.

The DCCI has a policy of not supporting specific planning applications but we do believe that Monkey World is doing an excellent job and deserves the support of both local people and local councillors in developing its activities near Wareham.
