A cosy winter ahead for monkeys thanks to Hayes House

Friday, October 28, 2011

WHEN Susan Abbott heard that Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre needed bedding to keep their primates warm in winter she decided to help out. A nurse at Hayes House Nursing Home in Shaftesbury, she encouraged the residents to collect suitable items and organised events such as car boot sales to raise funds. With the money made she contacted the Dorset Self Storage Company at Blandford and purchased a large bale of packing "blankets" which are normally used for protecting furniture in storage. Members of the staff at Dorset Storage were so impressed with the imaginative idea that they doubled the amount to be donated to two bales, which equates to 100 ordinary blankets. Zoe Hoare from the company, together with Susan and residents from the Nursing Home, handed over the donation at Monkey World on a very chilly day.
