NO REGRETS FOR TV CHIMP SHOW

The Express

The man behind a controversial animal show starring comedian and Michael Barrymore and performing chimps has said he would do it all again. Nigel Lythgoe, producer of LWT's Animals Do The Funniest Things, said he thought it acceptable for chimps to have teeth removed for safety reasons. Mr Lythgoe, controller of comedy, made the admitions in a phone chat with Jim Cronin, owner of Dorset;s Monkey World. Last month the Sunday Express revealed Mr Cronin's fears that the show sent out the "wrong message" about animal welfare. The programme included scenes of a chimp "singing" Madonna's hit Like A Virgin while wearing the stars trademark conical bra.
